What are and who are our Ambassadors?
We recruited our West Calder Cares Ambassadors from our S6 young people. These young people are then given intense training which involved Child Protection, Partnership Discussions and Challenge Poverty Workshops. The Ambassadors have risen to the challenge of raising the awareness
The role of the Ambassadors is to support all our young people and local community to make everyone feel included, equally equipped and prepared for life, especially aiding the reduction of poverty and poverty related problems in the local area.
Their goal is to try and remove the stigma attached to poverty and the barriers that poverty causes. They are trying to achieve this by making everyone in the local community aware of the impact of poverty on families. They are providing numerous different opportunities in the local community to raise awareness, engage and support those in need.
Ambassadors are advertising and communicating to families where they can access to receive support such as financial aid and employment advice, at times putting the person in direct contact support agency always ensuring full confidentiality.
In our local community, we aim to spread the support offered by branching out, working with families and forming relationships that will allow them to feel comfortable when seeking help.
Others things our ambassadors are doing in their daily school lives are:
-
Delivering training to young people and staff in WCHS on the Cost of the school day
-
Writing blogs for the weekly Head teachers Snippets
-
Promoting our Events on a regular basis through our social media platforms
-
Catching the attention of our local MSP’s
-
Challenge Poverty Initiatives and WL Equity
-
Ensured that we continue to raise awareness of the purpose and aims of West Calder Cares
