Child Poverty Scotland Act 2017: ‘life chances of Children brought up in poverty in Scotland are markedly worse than children living elsewhere’

West Calder Cares is a charity set up to remove minimise income stigma and exclusion amongst our families and local community in relation to poverty.

Our work started throughout lockdown as staff built trusting relationships with our families which enabled them to work together to tackle poverty related challenges in the local community.

What is our purpose?

  • The prevention and relief of poverty among young people, their families and the local community 

  • The advancement of education among young people of West Calder High School and the local community

  • The advancement of citizenship among young people of the school and the local community 

  • The relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage in the local community

  • The promotion of equality and diversity in the local community

  • The advancement of environmental protection or improvement in the local community
