S3 German
In S3 German, pupils look at the skills and relevance of learning German. This is presented in a PowerPoint with video clips and other activities.

Careers in Languages
In S3 Spanish, pupils explored what they would like to do in the future and how languages can a helpful skill to have in any job, not just language-based careers. Here is a link to the website:

As part of the transition back to school after the lockdown in April, S3 pupils were given the chance to complete a variety of activities based on languages, skills and careers. S3 looked at job profiles from the website SCILT and were looked at how languages have helped people in all different types of jobs.

There are many university/college courses who offer a ‘study abroad’ year as part of your degree, normally in Year 3. These are subjects such as business management, nursing, sociology, history, geography, drama, sport science, animation, mathematics, art, astrophysics, biological sciences, civil engineering, computing science, economics, engineering, fashion, film and television, graphic design, music and all courses including a language such as business with Spanish.

Dalmahoy Links
Senior language classes along with National 5 Travel and Tourism were given a talk/Q&A by Karina Glennie from Dalmahoy Hotel. Karina explained her background and how languages have helped her in the hospitality and travel and tourism industry.
We have planned a trip to Dalmahoy for early in the year to show the pupils these jobs in practice.

In IDL, classes have completing activities related to their future careers, discussing their skills and abilities and finding out the qualifications that they may need to take on as a career in this area and to help them make informed choices on their subjects.

The library has been re-opened in Plaza 5. English teachers have also created virtual ‘Reading Nooks’ where they recommend books, they’re currently reading or have enjoyed in the past. Borrow-Box is one way of re-thinking how we promote reading for our young people and their families in the current climate.
